Martin is the principal of a consulting civil engineering practice. The practice, which was established in 1980, specialises in geotechnical matters and the resolution of contractual claims and disputes. It carries out projects in both the UK and internationally and has worked on projects up to some USD600 million.

Martin has extensive experience both in preparing and in evaluating contractual claims and in assisting clients to resolve disputes. He sits as an arbitrator, acts as a conciliator/mediator, and acts as adjudicator under the Construction Act. His name is included on the Academy of Experts register of Mediators, the Institution of Civil Engineers (London) list of Conciliators, list of Adjudicators and list of Dispute Board Members. It is included on the Institution of Engineers of Ireland list of Conciliators and Dispute Board Members as well as on the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London) panel of arbitrators.
