THE SE BRANCH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Twenty Fifth Annual General Meeting of the
South East Branch of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators was commenced
shortly after the appointed start time of 6.15pm on Tuesday 11th March 2008 at
Reigate Manor Hotel. Apologies for absence had been received from a number of
Branch members, and these were read out before the minutes of the previous
year's AGM were approved. There were no matters arising from those minutes, so
the Chairman introduced her 2007 report, which had also been circulated to
those in attendance (and is reproduced below). Ian Wilson, who had been elected
as PR Officer by the committee in January, gave a short verbal report setting
out some encouraging objectives for the forthcoming year. In particular, the
committee hopes to focus on introducing new members to the Branch and making
sure that they are properly welcomed. The Branch Treasurer, Jon Hills, had
unfortunately had to give his apologies at the last minute, but had provided a
brief written report on Branch's finances. In essence, the Branch balance sheet
at 31st December 2007 was healthy, with income for the year marginally
exceeding expenditure. It was noted that one member felt it would have been
preferable if the various reports could have been available in advance of the
meeting, and this will be borne in mind for future years.
The main business of the AGM was to confirm the
results of the committee elections. It had not been necessary to hold a
contested election, so those standing (Murray Armes, Colin Featherstone, Lee
Knight, Richard Inniss and Derek Ross) were declared elected. Robin Orme and
Jane Ryland both stood down from the committee, and were thanked for their
exceptional contribution throughout their years of service.
No other business had been validly raised, so the
AGM was drawn to a close.
