Professor James B Boskey

1942-1999

Jim Boskey was a Professor of Law at Seton Hall University Law School, New Jersey, USA. It is unlikely that many of the Branch Members would have known about Jim, but he knew about the Branch. He was the Editor of The Alternative Newsletter. This significant publication was a collection of information on dispute resolution, and it included valuable editorials and news; together with book reviews, lists of articles, and notes about meetings and events taking place all over the world. The Alternative Newsletter carried details of the activities of the South East Branch and also noted its Newsletter by a description of its contents. Jim told one of the Editors of the Branch Newsletter about how much he enjoyed reading it.

It seemed to be a marvel that Jim could read so much information and report upon it in such detail. Fortunately, his valuable work is being carried on by others who seem to be dedicated to work into the future.

Jim’s lifespan has been concluded at an early age; but he did more things for the dissemination of knowledge about dispute resolution than would seem possible to most of us. He was a person who seemed to make other people feel that their own work was important to him; he most certainly made the Branch feel that its own Newsletter was a worthwhile publication.
