The Branch Members were extremely saddened to learn of the death this
spring of Horace Charles Vane at his home in Churchdown, Gloucester.
Horace Charles Vane, Charles as he was known to all, was a most
enthusiastic and ever-willing Member of the South East Branch of the Chartered
Institute and he served on the Branch Committee for a number of years, holding
the post of Treasurer. He retired in May 1994 from his previous home in Croydon
to the more relaxed area of Gloucester.
In addition to a sound Degree in Engineering, Charles was a Mechanical
and Electrical Engineer and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
He served the Committee as one of the tutors on a number of Surgeries and
willingly assisted younger Members with his comprehensive knowledge of
engineering arbitration. He was a quiet and unassuming gentleman who was never
seeking limelight or self-promotion. He will be sadly missed.
