Chartered Institute of Arbitrators South East Branch
ANNUAL DINNER
Saturday 5th November 2005, 7.30 for 8.00pm
The Commissioner's House, The Historic Dockyard, Chatham
After Dinner Speaker: HHJ Peter Coulson QC

Commissioner's house - porch Commissioner's house - frontWe are delighted to announce that the Branch's Annual Dinner will this year take place at The Commissioner's House at The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent. Built in 1704, Commissioner's House is England's oldest naval building. The Historic Dockyard is home to many attractions, including 3 historic warships (HMS Gannet (1878), a sloop of Queen Victoria's Royal Navy; HMS Cavalier (1944), a Second World War destroyer and HMS Ocelot (1962), a Cold War submarine). Subject to demand, the Dockyard will be able to offer us a pre-dinner private tour - including a glass of mulled wine - of their Wooden Walls and Road to Trafalgar exhibitions, the latter being a brand new exhibition to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar this year.

Commissioner's house and groundsBeautifully restored, and set in 1.5 acres of enclosed, landscaped gardens, The Commissioner's House will surely offer a wonderful venue for our event. To add to the occasion, we are delighted that His Honour Judge Peter Coulson QC, the newest Judge appointed to the Technology and Construction Court, has agreed to give a short speech after dinner.

We are also pleased to advise members requiring overnight accommodation after the dinner that we have negotiated a preferential rate with the Bridgewood Manor Hotel nearby (www.marstonhotels.com). We have been offered a rate of £100 for a double or twin room and £75 for a single. These prices are per room per night and inclusive of English breakfast. Members should book direct with the hotel (telephone no. 01634 201333), quoting the booking code "CHA05115".

Important note The Commissioner's House is currently holding two rooms for our event, one with a maximum capacity of 40 and one with a minimum capacity of 70. We need to decide which room to use for the dinner at the beginning of September, based on the number of bookings received by then. We would therefore encourage members to book as soon as possible, otherwise it may be necessary for us to opt for the smaller room which will regrettably mean that we will have to restrict bookings to a maximum of 40. Finally, members may wish to note that, because of The Commissioner's House's Listed status there is no level disabled access. The only access is via a stone staircase to the front of the building.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on 5th November.

Helena Brown
